Sambatribe is a community for all of us who are inspired by Brazil, in one way or another, and want to represent it with style and pride. We believe art is the best way to capture the Brazilian lifestyle and that it should be casual and portable, so you can express yourself wherever you are. We promote Brazilian culture through quality products with stylish art.
Our tribe members share a few things. For example, whether you are Brazilian or not, you may have experienced the feeling of saudade. It is that sentiment of longing and nostalgia that often hits both Brazilians who live abroad, and non-Brazilians who love the country and its culture. This sentiment surely unites us.
But that’s not all. If you’ve ever been to a roda de samba (samba circle) or to the Brazilian Carnaval; witnessed a sunset at Ipanema beach; screamed your lungs out during a soccer game at a Brazilian stadium; dropped your jaw at the architecture of Oscar Niemeyer or the art of Vik Muniz; devoured an açaí bowl; practiced capoeira or Brazilian jiu-jitsu; cheered for Brazil’s national team; or you simply enjoy the country’s colors, music, scenery, or culture… Well, you’re part of the tribe too!
We are thrilled to have you here and invite you to browse through our collections to choose your way to represent Brazil with style. We also invite you to sign up to our newsletter at the bottom of the page to be the first to know about new products, sales, and great stories.
Sambatribe was founded by childhood friends Andre Winkler, the entrepreneur, and Rafael Doria, the artist. Both grew up in Rio de Janeiro inspired by samba and bossa-nova music, street art, golden sand beaches, soccer and, of course, the ultimate carioca (Rio native) bohemian lifestyle.
Doria is currently one of Brazil’s most celebrated artists. He captures the country’s culture and lifestyle like none other, with beautiful colors, style, and great taste. Doria is an eclectic artist, his work including street art (that's him in the picture!), canvas and oil painting, drawings, stage design and scenery, album covers, skateboard design, among other forms. He exposes frequently in Rio de Janeiro’s galleries and also teaches art to kids, both in K-12 schools and in underprivileged neighborhoods and communities.
Andre is a restless entrepreneur and die-hard carioca, but he is also a bit of a globetrotter and has lived in several countries, including currently the U.S. He is a proud Brazilian and a guy full of passions, from Brazilian music, to sports like footvolley, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and of course soccer. He proudly assures everyone though that he is not really good at any one of these hobbies.
Andre saw in Sambatribe an opportunity to create a movement for people who relate to Brazil and crave ways to represent it with style and authenticity. When it came to choosing the artist for Sambatribe's graphic designs, inviting childhood friend Rafael Doria was a no-brainer. The combination of Andre's vision and Doria's art is the force behind the Sambatribe movement.
